Wine Country Trattoria Gluten-Free Pasta
This is the first of two blogs for Wine Country Trattoria at Disney’s California Adventure. During my first visit to Wine Country Trattoria, gluten-free pasta was on my mind. Having had the type of GF pasta served at Disney World from multiple restaurants, I wanted to make sure I had the chance to try it out at Disney’s California Adventure. I went for an early dinner in the late afternoon, so the restaurant was not very busy. However, I would highly recommend making a reservation and specifying that you would like to sit outdoors. It was beautiful outside, and at night the lighting really makes the atmosphere of the restaurant pop.
When I went, I met up with Chef Michael who walked me through the Wine Country Trattoria gluten-free pasta options on the menu. I decided on the Spaghetti Bolognese with the chef’s recommendation, along with a warm fudge allergy-friendly brownie for dessert. They also have the same gluten-free rolls that the rest of the parks feature at almost every location.
The rolls came out first which work as a great appetizer with the oil and vinegar on the table. I cannot praise these rolls enough. Unlike the ones from Disney World, which tend to get hard if you do not eat them immediately, these stayed soft and even slightly warm throughout the entirety of the meal.
Following that the Spaghetti Bolognese was brought to the table. It was a fantastic dish for what it was. The pasta was far superior to any I have had at Disney World. Unlike Disney World, they have gluten-free rice pasta in many shapes and styles to meet any dish they have on the menu. It is a pleasant change of pace if you are like me and get excited at being able to shake things up whenever you can. The sauce was very good; it is just a shame that the Disney parks have yet to find a way to make gluten-free meatballs. I feel like that would have been the only thing to make this Wine Country Trattoria gluten-free pasta one of the best dishes that I have ever had on Disney property.
Finally came the brownie. After all of this, I was already pretty full, so I was not planning on eating the entire brownie. That being said, the brownie was a fantastic dessert. A warm brownie topped with a refreshing scoop of ice cream. It was fantastic, and while I am not a chocolate lover, I downed the entire dessert in a few minutes.
Overall this was one of the best meals I have had at either California theme park to this date. I would highly recommend a visit here if you are looking for a great meal, especially one outside in the fall or spring.
