Cookes of Dublin Gluten-Free Fish and Chicken
Anyone who has to give up gluten, whether by choice or by need, has at least one thing they miss. For me, it was fish and chips. One of my favorite stops at Epcot is for fish and chips in the England pavilion. Of course, I have never even considered asking if it was possible there, or in the restaurant. I will have to do that on my next visit. That is why, when I found Cookes of Dublin gluten-free fish and chicken, I about nearly went out of my mind.
Thank you, Disney Springs, for bringing this amazing restaurant option for all of us who are gluten-free. Now, I will tell you right up front that this is not something you can eat on a strict Paleo Diet.
I believe Cookes of Dublin gluten-free fish and chicken are the same you can get right next door at the sit-down restaurant Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant. Please do not hold me to that. I have always wanted to try Raglan Road so watch for that review one of these days.
A regular order of fish and chips comes with beer-battered fish. Imagine how delighted I was to find out that you upgrade to champagne for the gluten-free version! The coating for both the fish and chicken consists of soda water, champagne, gluten-free rice flour, cilantro, salt, and pepper. The fish is cod, which is the standard for fish and chips. I think I am going to have fun trying this recipe at home using some of my favorite paleo-diet friendly flours. Keep an eye out in the recipe page down the road. I promise to share my hits and misses with you.
All gluten-free items are cooked in a separate fryer so there is no risk of cross-contamination. The oil, not paleo-friendly, is a cottonseed/canola blend. However, since the batter is not approved for the Paleo Diet, that is not an issue. I have never been a lover of canola oil, but I will make an exception here when I crave fish and chips.
My recommendation – Cookes of Dublin gluten-free fish and chicken get a big thumbs up for taste and quality.
