Dinner at ABC Commissary
ABC Commissary at Hollywood Studios is a fantastic option for anyone wanting a fast but nice quick service meal. Ordering at the counter makes things easy and carefree especially since the staff will bring the food straight to your table. They have lots to choose from including chicken tenders, burgers, barbeque chicken, and steak. Of course, you have a choice between healthy and not-so-healthy options.
It is hard to decide what to order. The barbecued chicken and ribs platter is a huge hit, providing lots of food for people who are gluten-free. The southwest burger is uniquely topped with pepper jack, guacamole, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and served on a GF bun. Just leave off the cheddar jalapeno poppers to make it gluten-free. If you skip the bun and cheese and ask for some veggies on the side, you can have a delicious Paleo-style meal. It sounds like it has a bit of a kick to it. You really cannot go wrong with any of these delicious choices.
Anyone who knows me, knows I love salads. The ABC Commissary has a great Mediterranean Salad loaded with vegetables and even served with hummus and pita chips as well. When ordering the salad, there is an option to add chicken breast or salmon. I added salmon for that extra iron. Of course, you would skip the pita chips to make it gluten-free. You can see the photo at the top of this page.
Huge Portions of Food at ABC Commissary
When the food arrived, I was shocked by how large the portion was! There was definitely enough food for two people or one very, very hungry person. Something I love is being able to get things on the side for picky eaters or just fewer calories. I got the feta cheese on the side as well as the dressing. Getting cheese on the side or even leaving it off the salad transforms the meal into a dairy-free feast. When the dressing is on the side I can use as little or as much as I want. I would not recommend the dressing for anyone on the Paleo Diet due to the ingredients.
It is easy to skip the dressing and enjoy the salad without it, especially when adding the hummus, salmon, or chicken on top. If you are on a Paleo Diet, you could leave off the dressing and the hummus, and it would still be a delicious meal. This meal is full of strong Mediterranean flavors that I love, especially with the peppers and Kalamata olives. The serving of salmon on top only added to the meal, giving even more food, as well as a healthy protein.
I will admit that I was curious to try the pita chip with the hummus even though it was not GF. When I took that first pita chip and dipped it into the hummus I was very happy to see the thick texture. Now that first bite, I can only describe as bliss. I can honestly say that was the best hummus I have ever had. Perfect texture, loaded with yummy flavors and made my taste buds tingle. It is great to add on the salad if you are avoiding gluten.
For me, this meal was an enormous success. Anytime I can get something other than a typical Caesar salad I am happy, especially when it comes with extra additives like protein and hummus.
We also tried the Chimichurri Flat Iron Sirloin Steak, leaving off the corn medley and substituting extra green beans. The chef made the green beans especially for us to meet the needs of a Paleo Diet. As you can see in the chimichurri steak ingredients, the sauce does contain canola oil, caramel color, and unknown spices. We got it on the side to taste it. Yes, it was delicious. Of course, one look at the photo of the steak and you can see how juicy it is. The flavor was so good that no sauce was even necessary. All in all, ABC Commissary was a big hit, and a quick service restaurant we look forward to coming back to again and again.
