Be Our Guest – French Onion Soup and Steak
This is the second of two blogs from Be Our Guest during our visit to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in December 2017. The first blog highlights the menu and a paleo version of their amazing ratatouille. You can access that blog by clicking here.
Anyone who knows me knows I love cheese; anything cheese, macaroni and cheese, nachos with cheese, cheese fries, or even just cheese by itself. Naturally, all I wanted when I first got to Disney was mac n’ cheese. Well, being that I was in Disney, it seemed like a bit of a waste to go for a kid’s meal of mac n’ cheese instead of all of the amazing food that Disney has to offer.
So, when we arrived at the Beast’s castle, I saw French onion soup on the menu and thought that would be perfect! After speaking with the chef at Be Our Guest, I was happy to enjoy some nice warm gluten-free rolls while I waited for my dinner. I am a big fan of soup and of course all of the cheese they put on top. The chef took out the crouton that lays at the bottom of the soup to make it gluten-free. I was worried that the lack of bread would make it taste different. I mean, French onion soup always has bread at the bottom.
But honestly, the soup was terrific. It made no difference not having the crouton, and with all the flavor, it was incredible regardless. They really packed on the cheese, to the point that I had to twist the spoon like spaghetti just to be able to get it to rip apart. The portion size is also very large, so for anyone who wants something to satisfy their hunger, but nothing too filling, this is a great option.
Steak and Vegetables – the Perfect Choice
I am big on ensuring I get my protein fix for the week and my iron fix as well. Typically, that means I go for some salmon, which is packed with both. At the beast’s castle, they have an option on the kid’s menu for a steak with green beans and carrots on the side. Now, I have to warn you – the food looked so good I was more than halfway done before I realized I forgot to take a picture. Do not let the portion size in the photo fool you – there was plenty of food. We did clean up the plate in editing so that you did not see what a mess I made.
Now, I am not the biggest steak fan, not because of the taste and flavor, but because it can be hard to chew and makes my jaw sensitive. I ordered the steak to be medium rare because it tends to be softer that way. When the plate arrived, it was dressed beautifully. The steak was just the right size, not incredibly big, but also not small. When I cut into it, it was like butter and that first bite…WOW. The steak was absolutely wonderful, full of flavor and soft on the teeth. Quite possibly the best steak I have ever tasted.
Since we try to eat Paleo as much as possible, this plate was perfect. The chef cooked everything to the specifications of the Paleo Diet. The green beans and carrots just topped the plate off adding the essential vegetables that I crave. I would highly recommend this protein, vegetable, cheesy meal to anyone gluten-free visiting the castle.
