Yak and Yeti Gluten-Friendly Breakfast
As the sun rises over the savannah and the animals begin to stir at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, breakfast is on the menu, not just for them, but also for you. There are very few restaurants open in the morning, but you will be surprised at what is available if you take the time to look. If you are in the mood for food, you can swing over to Asia for a Yak and Yeti gluten-friendly breakfast. If you are on a keto or paleo diet, have no fear, you can also fill up for a fun day of rides and animal watching. This quick service restaurant has a variety of options that are diet and allergy friendly.
The only downside is that if you are there for early-morning hours, you will likely have a couple of hours to wait before this restaurant opens. I suggest grabbing a piece of fruit or bringing an energy or protein bar to hold you over – but, I assure you, the wait will be worth it.
Now, you are not going into the Yak and Yeti sit-down restaurant. You will find these breakfast options at the Yak and Yeti Café – an outdoor quick-service spot. Do not be concerned when you are told there is no allergy menu. The chef prefers to speak with each guest to ensure their needs are met. Yes, that is right; this is one quick service restaurant where you get to speak with a chef. We were lucky enough to meet the incredible Chef Michelle, who whipped up our orders in no time at all.
We had no idea how huge the portions were going to be when we placed our order, or we would have shared a meal. As you can see on the menu below, you have a choice of breakfast bowls, sandwiches, fruit salad, or a yogurt parfait. Although we were on the dining plan, we chose not to use our credits on meals that were only $10.99.
My Yak and Yeti gluten-friendly breakfast consisted of a Bacon and Egg Sandwich featuring two fried eggs, American cheese, and plenty of candied black pepper bacon on an Udi’s bun. If you want an incredible breakfast sandwich, this is the perfect one. For a gluten-friendly option, they can replace the traditional challah bread bun with a toasted gluten-free roll. The sandwich is served with a side of seasoned hash brown rounds that were really good. The candied bacon is fantastic, thick cut slices with just the right amount of peppercorn. Probably the best bacon we have found across the parks. If you have not tried it, you are missing out.
The primary ingredients in the Udi’s allergy-friendly bun are:
- Tapioca – starch, syrup, and maltodextrin
- Brown rice flour
- Non-GMO canola oil
- Egg whites
- Cane syrup – regular and dried
- Potato flour
- Yeast
- Sugarcane fiber
- Gums – guar, xanthan
- Corn – resistant starch, cultured syrup solids
- Citric acid
- Salt
The breakfast potatoes contain quite a list of chemicals, besides the potatoes, vegetable oil (one or more of canola, soybean, cottonseed, sunflower, corn), dehydrated onion and parsley, gum, spices, and potato starch. Always remember to double check the current ingredients as suppliers and products do change.
Our other Yak and Yeti gluten-friendly breakfast is the perfect option if you are on a paleo or keto diet. You can leave off the bun entirely, and they can place the food on a plate. Since potatoes are not part of a paleo or keto diet, they will add a bit more bacon so that you can have some with every bite. It is hard to tell, but there was so much bacon under those two huge eggs that even sharing some, we still could not finish it. In place of the American cheese that comes on the sandwiches, we requested cheddar cheese, which was no problem. If you are on a paleo diet, omit the cheese. The egg and bacon are sufficiently satisfying on their own.
Now that we know for the future, we would order one meal on a plate with the gluten-free bun on the side. That way, one person could have the sandwich with one egg and bacon, and the other can have it on the plate.
For the perfect meal to fuel your day grab yourself a Yak and Yeti gluten-friendly breakfast that leaves you feeling healthy and satiated. As a great start to your day at Animal Kingdom, Yak and Yeti does not disappoint.
