Epcot International Festival of the Holidays 2017 Foods
At the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays 2017, foods took center stage with new Holiday Kitchen offerings. It is hard not to think first about food when talking about Epcot. After all, where else can you go on a culinary adventure around the world in just one day?
We did not have the opportunity to taste as many goodies as we would have liked at the festival. However, we did speak with some of the Disney Chefs to get dietary information. In Showcase Plaza, the Shredded Beef Tamale with Avocado Crema and Cilantro rice contains sour cream. The Roasted Pork with Mashed Yuca and Pickled Green Beans contains canola oil and sugar, but it is dairy-free.
Although far from being a paleo item, one person in our group could not resist the Tostada de Tinga from the Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen in Mexico. The crispy corn tortilla was topped with black beans and chipotle chicken. Garnishments included Crema Mexicana, Queso Fresco, avocado, and tomatillo sauce.
One of the items we did get was the Cheese Fondue in a Bread Bowl from Bavaria Holiday Kitchen in Germany. We asked for the cheese on the side since I did not want any gluten. My dining companion did. I was just really craving a small bit of dairy. The dish includes steamed baby vegetables and marble potatoes. I would have liked more vegetables, and probably could have gotten some if we left out the bread.
Morocco is always a favorite stop, and the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays 2017 Foods did not disappoint us here. Our first selection was the Grilled Lamb Kefta and Grapes. The dish includes julienne of Euro cucumber, red pepper, pickled pearl onions, harissa, and cilantro dressing. It was outstanding.
Our second dish was the Confit of Chermoula Chicken Drum with cinnamon. Imagine our surprise when we received two drumsticks. Online photos had only shown one, so this was a treat we could share. The dish also contains granny smith apple, toasted almonds, brussels sprouts, and Pinot Noir syrup. I could have eaten the brussels sprouts all day.
We are looking forward to reviewing many more foods next year at the 2018 Epcot International Festival of the Holidays. Make sure to check out our planning tips for the 2018 festival.
