Spice Road Table – A Dieter’s Delight
No visit to Walt Disney World is ever complete without heading over to Epcot for some international cuisine. It is sometimes hard to squeeze in a visit to a table service restaurant when you want to partake of all the festival foods that seem to entice you most of the year. However, if you are looking for a fantastic meal and excellent ambiance, do not miss out on Spice Road Table.
Unlike some of the other international restaurants that cannot readily cater to every dietary need, Spice Road Table excels. Everything on the menu is made fresh to order. That also means it can be catered to fit most every diet, including paleo, keto, and gluten-friendly diets. The chefs here are not only accommodating, but it is clear they take exceptional pride in meeting everyone’s requirements. When it comes to an allergy-friendly restaurant, you cannot go wrong.
Waterfront, Mediterranean Ambiance at Spice Road Table
Before we delve into the food, I want to touch on the ambiance of this restaurant. Spice Road Table is located right on the water across from the Moroccan pavilion and is open for lunch and dinner. It is a great place to watch IllumiNations: Reflection of Earth from at night without having to worry about lining up for that perfect spot an hour in advance.
Spice Road Table features both indoor and outdoor seating. They have tables and booths, with this special booth in the corner of the restaurant. The colors are earth tones, and the Mediterranean touch can be felt throughout the décor. Ask for a window seat and watch the little ducks swim by. You might even see a turtle poke its head out of the water.
Spice Road Table Dining – Allergy-Friendly for Everyone
One of the things that I loved the most was how happy the chef was to make substitutions to any dish. If you are on a paleo or keto diet, you will be glad to know that there is always plenty of extra virgin olive oil for your meal. I also love the fact that the signature sangria is organic. Spice Road Table uses only the freshest ingredients.
There has been only one menu change since we dined at this restaurant. The Fresh Tuna Salad on the Small Plates menu is no more. In its place, you will now find a Harissa Chicken Roll for $8.99. The only price change on the menu is the Rack of Lamb – it went down in price by $3! Of course, that may be a seasonal change.
We decided to try two of the Small Plates – Hummus and Imported Olives, and Brie Fondue. The Hummus comes with cornichons and zaatar pita bread. Since I am gluten-free, I was offered carrot sticks on the side.
One of the two hummus dishes came with marinated tomatoes, the other with an olive on top. The third compartment contained the pickles, olives, and tomatoes. My only complaint about this dish was I would have loved more pickles and olives.
The drizzle of olive oil on the crusty bread was perfect for the dips. The Brie Fondue is typically served with rosemary croutons. It came topped with a fruit spread and slivered almonds. Suffice it to say not a bite was left. My daughter is a cheese-aholic and devoured this dish.
Because we ate two appetizers, we opted to share the Rack of Lamb. Sorry about the photo – we started eating before we remembered to take the picture. The dish of zucchini was filled to the top, and there was another lamb chop that was rapidly consumed. We chose to swap green beans cooked in EVOO for the usual basmati rice accompaniment. It was a wise decision. The green beans were amazing.
I cannot recommend Spice Road Table enough as the perfect restaurant at Epcot. The combination of good food, excellent service, and spectacular ambiance makes this a diner’s paradise.
