Cosmic Ray’s Gluten-Free Dinner
Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in the Magic Kingdom offers many options for people on special diets. Whether you have a food allergy or are on a paleo or keto diet, you should be able to find something here that meets your needs. Our recent Cosmic Ray’s gluten-free dinner had us trying their falafel and barbecued pork sandwich.
As you can see on their menu, many of their food items are gluten/wheat allergy-friendly. They also have options for people who avoid soy, fish and shellfish, milk, peanut and tree nuts, and eggs. You do not need to settle for a plain, boring piece of chicken at Cosmic Ray’s.
Although I try to maintain a paleo diet as much as possible, I wanted to try the falafel patty to report on that. I ordered it without the gluten-free bun since Cosmic Ray’s has a wonderful toppings bar. My usual favorite quick service restaurant is Pecos Bill’s for their topping bar. This one comes close due to the addition of the mushrooms.
The falafel patty was a decent size – more than enough when paired with a side salad from the toppings bar. As you can see, I opted for lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mushrooms. The meal was delicious and filling.
Our other dinner selection featured the barbecued pork sandwich on an allergy-friendly roll and a side of green beans prepared without the standard canola/olive oil blend. Most counter service restaurants do not carry extra virgin olive oil, but it never hurts to ask. Sometimes they do.
The standard gluten-free buns at Walt Disney World are extremely dry. We can only hope that they look to change them in the future. After a few bites, we abandoned the bun and ate the pork with a fork. Although the pork was tasty, it is not recommended for people on a paleo or keto diet due to the high sugar content and additives in the sauce.
All-in-all, our Cosmic Ray’s gluten-free dinner options did not disappoint. If you are looking for a quick bite while on that side of the park, it is a good option. It is also a great place to duck out of a sudden Orlando rainstorm.
Here are the ingredients in some of the foods that we tried. You can then decide for yourself if these options will fit your diet. Always remember to check with an allergy coordinator because ingredients do change from time to time.
